Self-Employed? How a Bank Statement Loan May Work
October 30, 2026

Quick Summary
Write-offs can make your tax returns show less income than you really earn. A bank statement loan may let a lender use 12 to 24 months of personal or business bank statements instead. It may help business owners, stylists, truck drivers, contractors, and 1099 earners. Rates and terms can differ from a traditional loan, so it is worth comparing both.

Are you self-employed and your tax returns don't show what you really make? There's another way. It's called a bank statement loan.
Instead of tax returns, it may let us use 12 to 24 months of your personal or business bank statements, so we look at the money actually coming in.
This can help a lot of business owners, hairstylists, truck drivers, contractors, online shop owners, and anyone paid on a 1099. And it's not the only option. Depending on your situation, a 1099-only, P&L-only, or asset-based program may work too.
Sometimes a traditional loan with two years of tax returns is still your best fit. That's why I look at both.
These programs may work for you, but terms and rates can be different from a traditional loan, and every situation is different. That's why I compare them side by side. Reach out and I'll send you my self-employed checklist.
